About the Performance
Beethoven, one of the composers who has profoundly influenced her, will take center stage in her solo recital at Mountain View Theater, where she will perform his Piano Sonata No. 28 in A Major, Op. 101. Composed as Beethoven transitioned into his late period, this work emerged during his complete deafness, marking his exploration of a new artistic path—a quest to find direction through music. The sonata embodies a dialogue with fate amid adversity, intertwined with self—reconciliation. It seems as though the "Immortal Composer" has guided Chen Bixian's journey, inspiring her to choose forgiveness and courage in moments of struggle. She reflects: "In Beethoven’s time, the pursuit was to become better, to critique oneself, to seek improvement. The ethos was: 'Let us be good people.' Today, many seem to crave wealth rather than growth or strength."
