About the Performance
In Wang Zijun's concert, the entire program features works composed by Beethoven during his first decade in Vienna (1792-1802). Over these ten years, Beethoven transitioned from a piano virtuoso to a renowned composer, with the piano serving as his primary medium for musical expression. Works from before 1800 are imbued with the full emotional spectrum of the "Sturm und Drang" (Storm and Stress) movement, overflowing with fervor, fantasy, heroism, and solemn dramatic passion. Meanwhile, works from 1800–1802 can be seen as either inaugurating or concluding an epoch. From a historical perspective, Beethoven had already ascended to the pinnacle of Viennese tradition by this time.
