DIARY VII. THE STORY OF......

About the Performance

Diary VII: Let Me Tell You a Story... is one of the works from the Diary series by renowned Hong Kong dancer Mui Cheuk-yin. Using her encounters with stray cats as a narrative thread, the piece weaves together text, light, shadow, and sound, blending them with fluid, water-like movements and physical imprints to document years of companionship with stray cats and evoke profound reflections on the perception of life. Through subtle details, the work speaks volumes—using the story between humans and cats to reflect broader contemporary social concerns such as home, nation, displacement, and migration. Every aspect of its conception and choreography is thoughtfully crafted, with each gesture brimming with genuine and “pengpai” emotion, offering an exquisite interpretation of its thematic essence.

In 2024, the work received incubation support from the Shekou Theatre Festival and was staged at the Value Factory. The performance masterfully integrated dance and light with the unique spatial qualities of the glass factory, earning widespread admiration and acclaim from audiences. In January 2026, Mui Cheuk-yin and Lee Chi-wai will bring Diary VII: Let Me Tell You a Story... to the moutian view theater. What new artistic expressions will this presentation bring? Let us wait and see.
