LIFengyun, WANG Jianxin - Qin & Xiao Concert

About the Performance

This is a spiritual invitation that transcends millennia.

The serene sounds of the guqin, xiao, and xun evoke the grace of the pre-Qin era, the character of the Wei and Jin dynasties, the poetic essence of the Tang and Song dynasties, and the charm of the Ming and Qing dynasties, all unfolding gently in the tranquility of this evening.

"Three Stanzas of Plum Blossoms" and "Yi Zhen" carry a pure and frost-defying charm, like the penetrating fragrance of winter blooms;

"Guangling San" and "Song of Chu" resonate with solemnity and sorrow, stirring the depths of the soul;

"Flowing Water" and "Dragon Soaring" blend agility and vigor, mirroring the myriad forms of mountains and rivers;

"Subtle Fragrance," with its melodious and lingering tones, transforms the poetic imagery of the Song dynasty into a dreamlike reverie of a quiet night.

Li Fengyun, inheritor of the Guangling guqin school and professor at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, brings the guqin to life with exquisite and heartfelt artistry, turning it into a vessel of profound expression. Wang Jianxin, virtuoso of the xiao and xun and also a professor at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, guides his breath to create warm and far-reaching tones that touch the deepest corners of the heart. Together, through their masterful skill and profound knowledge, they unveil the sublime beauty of ancient music and the true essence of life. Amidst the lingering melodies, the audience may find a moment of inner clarity, as if hearing the echo of their own souls across the expanse of time.
