About the Performance
Laurent Assoulen, a French artist who embodies the dual identity of jazz pianist and master perfumer, stands at the intersection of music and fragrance, orchestrating a dialogue between sound and scent.
When piano melodies and aromatic notes tremble and merge in the air, Assoulen draws inspiration from the interplay between perfume and music, composing each fragrant musical piece. He then shares his creative vision with three master perfumers—Anne Flipo, Carlos Benaïm, and Napoleão Bastos—who interpret and translate his artistic philosophy into scent. Finally, the fragrances will be deeply perceived by the audience through live piano improvisation—where vibrating strings meet diffusing aroma molecules—creating a multisensory experience in this "Olfactory Concert."
The Italian word "Sentire" carries a dual meaning: "to listen" and "to perceive." In "Sentire: A Perfume Concert," the audience will experience ten musical pieces paired with five distinct fragrances. The top, heart, and base notes of the perfumes engage in a dialogue with the piano’s high, mid, and low tones, as olfactory stimuli and melodic harmonies resonate in perfect rhythmic synchrony.
