Renowned Chinese-American pianist Lin Yi may be most active on Western stages, but he’s no stranger to many Chinese music fans!
Years ago, when he toured China with the South Korean classical "boy band" Ensemble DITTO, the group—equally admired for their looks and talent—left a lasting impression. That’s right, Korea isn’t just famous for K-pop idols; their classical male ensemble DITTO once swept across Asia in a whirlwind of refined artistry!
To join this elite group, members had to not only possess striking visuals but also be top-tier performers—each one a graduate of prestigious music conservatories or an award-winning virtuoso who could’ve easily relied on their looks alone! Among the maestros who collaborated with them were violin legends like Kyung-wha Chung and Gidon Kremer.
The Riddles of Piano Music
This Friday, August 9th | 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Jingshan Theater, Shekou, Shenzhen
Pianist Lin Yi will take on the role of salon host at Jingshan Theater, unraveling the enchanting mysteries behind piano music—with live performances of iconic excerpts. In this salon, we’ll explore questions like:
1.Mozart’s Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Variations—why does this childhood staple feel more demanding to pianists as they grow older?
2.The tale of Beethoven’s "Moonlight" Sonata in elementary textbooks… turns out to be a beautiful misconception?
3.Why do solo piano works have such dizzying titles? Chopin’s "Ballades", Mendelssohn’s "Songs Without Words", plus sonatas, variations… what exactly sets them apart?
