Music Salon|A letter from Lounge in Paris

May 15, 2024

Paris in the 19th century,

a city where artists head over and aspire to.

At the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Coco Chanel first crossed paths with composer Igor Stravinsky. Claude Debussy crafted his revolutionary Prélude à l’Après-midi d’un faune from Stéphane Mallarmé’s symbolist poem L’Après-midi d’un faune. Beyond these encounters, countless visionary artists have immortalized their most transcendent works in the soul of this city...

As dusk descended,

scholars and artists would conveprge within the salon,

transforming it into a beacon that steered the tides of the art world.

 The artists’ passionate debates and pressing concerns of the time often became the seeds of their next great work.

In these salons, verbal sparring mingled with cascades of notes flung into the air; between spoken word and improvised melody, communication transcended language itself, weaving dialogues that resonated soul to soul.

Lounge in Paris

May 17th, Friday, 7pm-8pm

at Mountain View Theare

The stage of Mountain View Theatre will transform into an intimate lounge where violinist Arnold Susmann and pianist Michael Stephen Brown cordially invite music enthusiasts to join them for an evening of dialogue and shared passion.

At this salon, the following topics will be explored:

- Characteristics and performance styles of French salon music;

- The influence of salon culture on musical creativity;

- The popularity of Eastern cultures in France and Eastern elements in French compositions.

Throughout the event, the two musicians will personally perform excerpts from iconic French chamber music works, bridging discussion with artistic demonstration.
